Detailed Description
The Aerobie AeroPress is a new way to make coffee. The manufacturer markets the AeroPress as a coffee and espresso maker, but in reality the coffee it makes is a new experience, not quite as intense as espresso, but a much bolder cup than drip coffee. In many ways the AeroPress cup of coffee is much better than traditional coffees, bold but not bitter and acidic, producing a nice smooth cup.

If your in the market for a new espresso machine or just don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a home espresso machine, the AeroPress is definitely worth trying. And if you still want to invest in the espresso machine the AeroPress is also a nice 1 cup and travel solution, it beats drinking hotel coffee any day.

Some of the advantages to this brewing method are it's ease of use and flexibility. The AeroPress system looks daunting at first, but the process is extremely simple.
  1. Grind your coffee to a medium fine grind, you can experiment with grind settings to find the best grind for you. If the press is too hard to plunge try a coarser grind, if too much of the coffee is seeping through (some seeping is normal), try a finer grind. With the plunger removed and a filter in place, pour your grounds into the press.
  2. Heat water to 165°-175°, pour over grounds and stir for 10 seconds.
  3. Wet plunger before inserting into chamber and press down gently until plunger reaches the bottom. If your making espresso your done, if you're making American style coffee add 4 oz. of water for each espresso shot, if your making a latte or cappuccino add steamed or just hot milk if you don't have a steamer and your done.
  4. For cleanup, remove the filter basket and press the plunger the rest of the way through to eject the coffee puck and rinse the Aeropress parts.
For detailed brewing information please download the Aeropress Brewing Instructions.

The AeroPress comes with everything shown below. This version of the Aeropress also includes a nylon travel bag.

Manufacturer Information

The AEROPRESS™ is an entirely new way to make coffee.
  • Water and grounds are mixed together for ten seconds.
  • Then gentle air pressure pushes the mix through a micro-filter in 20 seconds.
  • The total brewing time of only 30 seconds results in exceptionally smooth flavor.
  • Tasters ranging from professional cuppers and author Kenneth Davids, to coffee aficionados all praise the smooth, rich flavor.

There are several reasons why AeroPress coffee tastes so good:
  • Total immersion of the grounds in the water results in rapid yet robust extraction of flavor.
  • Total immersion permits extraction at a moderate temperature, resulting in a smoother brew.
  • Air pressure shortens filtering time to 20 seconds. This avoids the bitterness of long processes such as drip brewing.
  • The air pressure also gently squeezes the last goodness from the grounds, further enriching the flavor.
  • Because of the lower temperature and short brew time, the acid level of the brew is much lower than conventional brewers. Laboratory pH testing measured AEROPRESS brew's acid as less than one fifth that of regular drip brew. The low acid is confirmed by coffee lovers who report that AEROPRESS brew is friendlier to their stomachs.
AEROPRESS is the result of several years of applied research by inventor/engineer Alan Adler. He conducted numerous brewing experiments, measuring the brew with laboratory instruments. The experiments demonstrated that proper temperature, total immersion and rapid filtering were key to flavor excellence. He then designed and tested dozens of brewers before settling on the AEROPRESS design. The design was further validated by coffee lovers who tested prototypes in their homes.
